Brazil, April 2009
Greetings from Fortaleza, Brazil.
I arrived Wednesday morning at about 9:00am after an uneventful flight from the USA. No sleep on the way down, so was pretty tired, but happy to be in Brazil again, ready to meet the saints, many of which I have never seen before. They have had enormous growth since I was here 4 years ago.
I went to a meeting in the slums on Thursday evening. Good turnout with a number of new people at the meeting. Seems they always have new people at their meetings. The level of enthusiasm for the chorus singing was beautiful to see and infectious .

After the meeting in the slums hall

Pastor Esteves looking happy after the meeting. He said there were about 20 new people at the meeting.

Sunday Meeting at Iracema Beach
Sunday Evening was very eventful. The meeting started as normal, but Ps Esteves had been warned to expect a lot of new people.

As it turned out there were about 400 people at the meeting. A large number were new, and at the end of the meeting when the call came for people that wanted to be baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit, 42 people lined up. A number had already received the Holy Spirit. One young lady told us as she arrived for the meeting that she had received while walking to the meeting that day! Another man was healed completely of mental problems that he had been suffering from for years while he was praying after he had been baptized.
Most of thoseĀ baptized were people that had been challenged to attend a meeting while taking part in a surfing competition 100 km away from Fortaleza. needless to say they were very excited as they received the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues.
After 42 had been baptized, the parents of 2 of the girls baptized were so moved by seeing all of this happen that they got baptized as well. Everyone just gets into the baptism tank in the clothes they came in, just as well as the Fellowship would have a difficult time catering to so many with changes of clothing for them. The climate here obviously allows them to do that. Nobody seemed at all concerned about their clothes being wet afterward, praise the Lord for the great blessing of being able to be a part of an exciting time like this.

After the meeting the newly baptized & filled with the Holy Spirit Surfers went to the beach where they found some more people to tell about their new experience with the Lord Jesus. As a result 20 more were baptized in the ocean.

A view of the congregation from the rear of the hall. It was packed, with people standing around the sides and at the back of the hall.
NEWSFLASH
Today (Tuesday) I am in the villages. Tomorrow night we are to have a hall opening (Pics to follow). Tonight we had an outreach at one of the small villages that dot area called Quemadas. There were about 50-60 people at the open air meeting, about 10-15 of those were new people. A bus is being rented to transport them to the meeting tomorrow night, in the hope that there will be some baptisms. Ps. Jose is doing a marvelous job in the area PTL. Afterwards Ps Esteves & I returned to the hotel for a meal & a chat, while we were chatting away he made a couple of calls to check on a Y.P’s. meeting. No baptisms there, but earlier in the day 12 surfers were baptized in the ocean as a result of being witnessed to while waiting on their boards for a wave ( there were none). During the conversation they began to receive the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues. They were then all baptized in the sea alongside their surfboards. All of them went to the Young people’s meeting tonight. Day of Pentecost at sea? While this was going on, they were surrounded by curious surfers, wondering what was taking place. We may hear more of this yet!
Villages Visit
On Tuesday the 14th we went out to the villages for a couple of days. On the way we discovered where God Lives.

This rock formation is called the “Finger of God”, so apparently God Lives in Brazil!
While we were there we visited the new Hall, and attended the opening.

The Hall had not been allowed to be used by the council due to some work that needed to be done to the sanitary arrangements. This has now been completed and is able to be used for all the meetings. There are approximately 500 saints in the area around Iguatu. At the midweek meeting for the hall opening we had about 300 in attendance, which according to Pastor Jose was quite a good turnout.

We visited the farm as well and saw some new banana trees and some of the oil trees. The oil from these trees is used in the manufacture of Bio Diesel
